He made fun of the Tercel and didn’t know the difference between an RX-7 and an MX-5 so absolutely wouldn’t work out.
Also I saw the cleanest All-Trac wagon ever a few minutes ago and couldn’t get a photo.

It continues to be nice to know you on Oppo.

Uhh, how can you not tell the difference between an MX-5 and an RX-7? My mom, who is not interested in cars whatsoever can still tell the difference.

dammit...guys we need to return her things now.

I'm so glad to see you guys again.

I legitimately feel bad for not willing you guys the Abarth and the Tercel. How could I overlook such awesome people?

On the opposite side of the coin, I don’t think any girl that has ever ridden with me has really known my car was more special than any other BMW, or more importantly cared. I used to be really good friends with this Turkish girl I worked with, the first time she got in my car she was just excited to see it was a stick, then proceeded to rip on my driving cause at that time I had barely had my car for 3 weeks and it was my first manual car.

But you had bequeathed the cats to me, right?

Who was this nitwit again?
(Edit for clarification: The guy, not you.)

*returns Abarth key*
dammit...

Fair enough. There is obviously a laundry list of other problems at work here - but you never make fun of someone’s car (or house/hair/weight/etc) unless they invite you to. I understand not knowing what the Tercel is or why I would care about it, but obviously there’s a reason I’d buy a second car!

He sounds hideous.

Just an old acquaintance who randomly decided he had a thing for me despite knowing NOTHING about me.

Of course!

But don’t you realize, smobgirl, that you’d be lucky to date him because he has deigned to give you some sort of attention! /s
![]() 09/05/2016 at 15:47 |

WAY too much attention. The whole thing was so ridiculously over the top it wasn't funny. I'm rarely a fan of surprises to begin with but I can't even describe how uncomfortable all of this was. *shudder*
![]() 09/05/2016 at 15:50 |

He sounds like a dweeb....which is not a word I often use, but feel like it is appropriate to use in this situation.
![]() 09/05/2016 at 15:50 |

I agree with that, I can understand asking why you’d want something like that and at least being understanding of your answer. Like personally I don’t understand why people want 80s Toyotas so much; however, I can understand differences in tastes etc. and to each his/her own.
![]() 09/05/2016 at 15:53 |
|
I feel the same about German cars, haha. I could never deal with one, as pretty as some of them are, but if that's your thing I'll be happy for you!
![]() 09/05/2016 at 15:55 |

When I was typing that I was thinking about how I’d love an 80s BMW, and how not everyone does. Like wise, I think most car people can agree that we don’t all like the same cars, but can at least accept the fact that there are people out there with different tastes.

Congrats on the not being murdered and made into a skin suit.

Sounds like a poop person!
Your Tercel is rad.

He made of the Tercel... I wish awful things upon him.

To be perfectly honest, he sort of smirked and laughed at the Abarth too, despite not having any idea what it was.

._.

but he’s probably wearing khakis

Hahaha you just gave me the greatest idea - I am totally changing his contact info in my phone to the poop emoji.

Very appropriate actually!

Believe it or not (of course you’ll believe it) - despite a clear refusal of all advances and plenty of “soft no”s piled on, he is now persistently trying to get me to fly out there. This is not what I need in my life right now.
![]() 09/05/2016 at 23:42 |

Jesus Christ, what the fuck dude? That is not ok. :( I’m sorry he’s bothering you. And that he doesn’t understand the concept of “hell no, motherfucker.”
Do you have him on any of your social media? Because I’m trying to figure out how he went from “acquaintance who doesn’t know you” to “acquaintance who is convinced you are his girlfriend but you just don’t realize it yet” with no advance warning. If y’all are on facebook or IG or what have you, I wouldn’t doubt it if he’s been creeping on you for a while, keeping up with your posts and building up this narrative in his mind about how perfect you are and how you guys would be perfect together. I’ve had similar shit happen to me before and the guy would not let up. I had to block him on everything imaginable.
Stay safe, smobgirl.

We are facebook friends. And from the way he speaks, I feel like he collects people - if that makes sense? He has so many people he refers to as friends that are probably similarly (or more) distant. I seem to just attract stalkers too.
Sorry to drag you into all this crap but I seriously appreciate the emotional support! I have too many female friends defending him as just being too enthralled/socially inept/whatever. No. Just no.
![]() 09/06/2016 at 00:03 |

Nope. Listen to your gut. I think you and I are around the same age, so I’m assuming this guy is about that age, too, which means he is more than old enough to fucking know better. Hell, even if he was college age, he should know better.
What he’s doing is not ok. It is not socially inept. You have set boundaries and he’s violating them. You have told him no (doesn’t matter if it’s a soft no or a literal “no”) and he’s ignored that, multiple times.
He’s also insulted your interests/knowledge (the thing with the Tercel and the RX7 vs. an MX5), which means he’s disrespected you. I mean it’s not that he just didn’t know what a tercel was and asked you why you liked it or why you own one, but he actively insulted you. Negging isn’t cute when a pimply faced teen does it, but it’s a huge red flag when a grown ass man does it.
Disentangle yourself from him on social media. If you don’t feel comfortable unfriending him, then change your Facebook settings so that he can only see the barest minimum.
Your spidey sense is going off for a reason, and it’s more than just being annoyed at him insulting the tercel or getting sick of him trying to convince you to fly out to see him. Listen to your gut.
ETA: Also, there's absolutely no need to apologize. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help.

I support this poo-plan.
![]() 09/06/2016 at 09:01 |

Yea, if he’s not taking the polite hints, it’s time to break out the direct and unapologetic “no.” And if he starts with the “why not I’m such a good guy!” remember he’s not at all entitled to an explanation.

Did.....did he wear a fedora?
W-w-w-w-was there a grotesque undergrowth of moss resembling hair on his neck?
You might have been in the presence of...A NECKBEARD! :O
Actually, you probably weren’t, or maybe you were, I have no clue, but I recently had the cringe-worthy experience of sitting next to a “first date” between a woman who had been to this bar quite frequently (we’re both mug club members) and her date. Date proceeds to tell her all about the bar (and was wrong), all about his favorite beers and their histories (was wrong again), and basically insulted the bar and told her if she wanted REAL beer, she’d go to his favorite place instead (he says this as she sips from her personalized mug). He wore a stupid hat. He had a dragonball Z shirt on. I offered to buy her a beer to pour on him. Almost did it for myself.....
boys these days -_-
